Casado, quatro filhos, seis netos.
Seus pais: Aurélio Piroli e Elvira Bruzzaferro. Uma única irmã, Edda.
Sua mãe morreu quando tinha um ano. Foi criado, então, pela avó italiana Giovanna e pelo pai
operário, na Lagoinha, reduto de famílias italianas, mas também de marginais, bêbados, vagabundos e criminosos. Essas condições influíram no tipo de literatura que fez.
